A non-financial analysis
In 2022, Figma made headlines when Adobe agreed to buy the company for $20B. Adobe has long been a significant acquirer in the advertising, marketing, and design industry, but the Figma deal was the largest by a multiple of 4. So, what makes Figma so valuable?
If you came here for a financial analysis of the transaction… you’re in the wrong place. But if you’d like to understand how Figma stacks up against other offerings, check out our list below.
Adobe Creative Suite
Adobe has been around for decades and has a wide range of tools for design, video, and more. For full functionality, the platform must be downloaded and installed on a computer, rather than accessed from the cloud, which can take up valuable space and slow things down. Of course, Adobe now owns Figma. Figma had something that Adobe Suite could not offer.
Sketch is a popular design platform geared explicitly toward web and app design. It has many valuable features, but it's only available for Mac and can be buggy sometimes. Plus, you have to pay for a license to use it.
InVision Studio is a newer design platform with many advanced features geared explicitly towards interactive design. However, it's only available for Mac and can be overwhelming for those new to design.
Now let's talk about Figma.
Figma is a cloud-based design platform that works on any device with a web browser so that you, your teammates, and your collaborators can access your designs from anywhere. It has a wide range of design tools, and you can collaborate with your team in real-time. In addition, it integrates with popular tools like Google Drive, Trello, Webflow, and Slack.
So if you want a modern, flexible, and feature-packed design platform that won't break the bank, give Figma a try. Your future self will thank you.
